There's an old computer joke…
about Jesus and the devil. They’re in a programming contest when the electricity suddenly goes off, erasing all of their work in mid-code. The devil fumes while Jesus smiles. “Why are you smiling?” “Don’t you remember who I am? Jesus saves. Jesus saves.”
I learned that very important lesson today. I’ve learned it before, but I absorbed it into my innermost cerebral cortex today. In attempting to upgrade this site, I inadvertently deleted the structure of the website. After fixing that problem, I subsequently wreaked even more havoc by deleting the database. This essentially erased the entire website. Thankfully, there wasn’t a lot of information there, and it was somewhat easily fixed with an hour of work. But in those minutes when I realized what a quick, unthinking click had done, I wanted to put a foot through my monitor, throw my CPU through the window, then drop whatever else I could find in my office off of a high tower.
Note to readers: this does not happen often, so please fear not should you ask for a website from me. Cliche and trite, but you do live and learn.
Just remember to save your work before attempting webcentric surgery.
