Joost Invite?

posted on April 08, 2007 in Technology Television // View Comments

I talked about Joost in a previous post. I lamented the fact that I had not been offered a beta invite. Today, apparently, was my day. They expanded their beta test and I received my invite. It’s akin to pay-per-view tv via the Internet, except you don’t have to pay for it. The quality’s better than I expected. The content selection is still limited, but there are a few channels of worthwhile viewing (National Geographic Channel and Comedy Central, IMO). I haven’t delved into too much yet, but you can chat with other viewers while you’re all watching the same show. There are other net-centric features like that built into the software as well. If you’d like an invite, leave a comment. I’m not sure how many I have to give out, so first commented, first served. Once again, reading too quickly has caused me to err. There’s an "Invite a Friend" option within Joost, but there’s also a small line with "Number of Invites to Give: 0." My apologies! But if and when I get invites to send, send them I will.

Rhodes: Half a Mind to Stay

My friend’s band, Rhodes, released their first album, Half a Mind to Stay, a few months ago. It’s now on iTunes (search for Half a Mind to Stay) and if you like modern rock with a classic feel, a mix of blues, brit-rock, and southern rock, you should buy the album. There’s only 10 tracks, but when I say only I mean there’s only ten great tracks. It’s all killer and no filler, like far too many albums these days. They’re just getting started, and one day they will take over the world, metaphorically speaking. Then again, if they actually do take over the world, I’ll be ok, since I know at least one of the guys in the band.

They have a website. They have a recent, great online interview. They have a MySpace. They have a GarageBand site. And you can buy an actual, real, honest-to-goodness CD from their  site. Samples abound there, on iTunes, and at their own site.

Just go buy the songs and thank me later.

You could also do a little market research and see that their music is much better than what’s currently out there. Get ‘em on the radio, and soon!

Godtube and SupportTube

It seems the internet is actually becoming a series of tubes. YouTube has spawned imitators, two of which I’d actually peruse: GodTube, the Christian answer to the godlessness that is YouTube (he said sarcastically, sort of…) and SupportTube, a plethora of how-to videos. It’s a good thing that the internet is not a series of hoses, otherwise we’d have YouHose, GodHose, and SupportHose.

Even though I might have already posted this video, it’s good enough, in my humble estimation of Christian-themed parodies, to embed once again.

Baby Got Book

And another good one, The Evangelism Linebacker

The Truman Show Gets Real

posted on April 03, 2007 in Videos Websites // View Comments

Just stumbled onto Justin.tv. He wears a camera, everywhere, all the time, and it’s live on the web. Craziness. You knew it had to happen, and what with the popularity of YouTube, the low cost of cameras, and possibly the involvement of subtle advertisers, Justin.tv has made The Truman Show become reality.

Then there’s Ustream.tv (I think they could have come up with a better name), which also offers to film "A Day in the Life of You."

Found via Download Squad, a great blog for free downloads, computer and internet tips, and random information like that found above.

Now That's Rock and Roll

Surely, Keith Richards is a missing member of Spinal Tap.

In what can only best be described as either the hallucinations of a worn-out, road-weary, drug-saturated, wrinkled old rocker or the actual rock and roll truth, Keith Richards has confessed to snorting his father. Some may think he did this years ago during the heyday of the Stones, but no. His father died in 2002. Richards thought it might be a good idea to snort some coke mixed with his father’s ashes. I’m sure it sounded sane to him in the moment…

I’m disgusted, but amused. You have to wonder…has this ever been done before? Actually, no, I don’t want to know the answer.

It definitely seems like a deleted scene from This is Spinal Tap.

A day later, there’s this retraction. I don’t know if I believe it.

[brought to you by Ephedra, probably a drug Keith Richards has never used. Then again, I might be giving him too much credit.]
