Yes, I confess. I recorded the National Spelling Bee. I’m watching it at this very moment. Part of me wishes I would have known about this when I was younger, but, although I was a good speller, I was no where near where these kids are. I loved big words, but, even in my late twenties, they’re spelling words I’ve never known. And the pressure? I would have cracked. The funniest thing was a little sister of one of the contestants saying her favorite word; it was one of mine as well, growing up, and I’d forgotten about it for a long time. It’s a great word: humuhumunukunukuapuaa. Almost totally useless, but fun to say and write.
